Best Known As : Heavyweight boxing champ called "The Greatest".
Name at birth : Cassius Marcellus Clay.
Magnetic, vocal and dubbed "The Greatest," heavyweight boxing title holder Muhammad Ali was the prevailing heavyweight battler of the 1960s and 1970s. A belligerent of exceeding velocity, cute and genius, Ali won the world heavyweight rubric on three disjointed junctures over a bridge of 15 years. He was born Cassius Clay, and thereunder name he gained a gold medal at the 1960 Olympics in Rome. After claiming his first title by overcoming Sonny Liston in 1964, Clay got together the Nation of Islam and altered his name to Muhammad Ali. mentioning his Islamic religious belief, Ali declined to help in the U.S. military through the war in Vietnam ; his title was annulled and he was doomed to five years in prison for draft equivocation. (The U.S. Supreme Court turned the article of faith in 1971.) He had a long-running competition with fellow heavyweight Joe Frazier, whom he retaliated three times : Ali lost the first match in 1971, but won rematches in 1974 and 1975. Ali also shot down George Foreman in the renowned 1974 "Rumble in the Jungle" held in Kinshasa, Zaire. Ali withdrew from boxing in 1981, but in the decennial since has stayed one of the world's best known jocks.
In retreat Ali has digested from Parkinson's Disease, a motor-skills sickness which has decelerated his motion and went away him largely ineffective to talk in public... In 1996 he was chosen to illuminate the ceremonial fire at the Summer Olympics in Atlanta, conveying him once again into the spotlight... Ali was invested into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1990... He won his three titles by shooting down Sonny Liston (1964), George Foreman (1974) and Leon Spinks (1978)... Ali's directors occasionally mention to him as GOAT -- the Greatest Of All Time... Sprinter Wilma Rudolph won three gold medals at the 1960 Summer Olympics, the same games at which Ali won his boxing gold.
